What is fear? Sometimes it is something that overcomes me. Makes me feel like I can’t go on. Sometimes it is simple and easily brushed away. Sometimes it won’t leave for hours and keeps me awake all night.
Will Paul come home from his trip? Will I ever see him again? Will Brendan wake up in the morning? Will he get the stomach flu and end up back in the hospital? Will Jenny be diagnosed with something horrible as well? The list of fears in my life seem to never end.
God has promised to release me from my fears. Not to stop bad things from happening, but to let me have faith that he will be there walking beside me in the good and the bad, holding me up and holding my hand. I constantly feel God’s hands all around me through the hands and hearts of those that love me. Through the amazing community that I am a part of.
Friends and loved ones all around me right now are finding that they have reasons to feel fear. I am praying for each of you daily. I am praying that you will find peace in your hearts and your souls. That God will truly remove your fear, please remember that it does not come from Him. The passages below continually help me in my constant times of fear. I am far from being safe from it—but I do believe that God removes it and walks beside me if I let Him.
Psalms 3:5-7
5 I lie down and sleep;
I wake again, because the LORD sustains me.
6 I will not fear the tens of thousands
drawn up against me on every side.
7 Arise, O LORD!
Deliver me, O my God!
Strike all my enemies on the jaw;
break the teeth of the wicked.
Psalms 27:3
3 Though an army besiege me,
my heart will not fear;
though war break out against me,
even then will I be confident.
Psalms 46:1-3
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.
Isaiah 41:9-11
9 I took you from the ends of the earth,
from its farthest corners I called you.
I said, 'You are my servant';
I have chosen you and have not rejected you.
10 So do not fear, for I am with you;
do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you;
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
11 "All who rage against you
will surely be ashamed and disgraced;
those who oppose you
will be as nothing and perish.
Isaiah 41:13
13 For I am the LORD, your God,
who takes hold of your right hand
and says to you, Do not fear;
I will help you.
I John 4:17-19
17 In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him.
18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.
19 We love because he first loved us.
